Meeting 2/24: Guns on College Campuses

24 Feb

Legislation is in the works to make it legal to carry a weapon on college campuses as long as one has a concealed weapons permit. Especially after campus shootings, such as the tragic events at Virginia Tech, renewed fervor of those who think that students could use their own concealed guns to defend themselves against attackers.

This issue is becoming especially relevant to UF students as this is a bill that is in the works for Florida. There are many pros and cons to this issue that doesn’t have a basic black/white answer.

DROP DEAD, YOU CREEP. GO STEAL ANOTHER NAME FOR YOUR “HUMBLE PAGE.” FREEBIE – TO GAIN NOTORIETY. “JUST A HUMBLE ENGLISH MAJOR” IS ANOTHER NAME FOR STEALING ARTISTS’ IDEAS AND HARD WORK.

PUBLISH THIS ON YOUR “HUMBLE PAGE.”

COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT SHOULD BE A MAJOR CONCERN OF EVERY ENLISH MAJOR. DON’T THEY TEACH YOU ANYTHING IN COLLEGE?

PUBLISH THIS ON YOUR “HUMBLE PAGE.”

Honestly Rosemary, I don’t really understand what has upset you so much. A small university club arbitrarily picked a name which they thought sounded cool and relevant, and you blow up about it?

I can understand how this might irk you if they were using it for profit or they were detracting from your product by using the name, but they’re not. Even a small amount of research into copyright infringement would show you that what they have done does not qualify as such.

I think your time and energy may be better spent elsewhere.

We’re very sorry you feel this way, Ms. Gilroy. I can assure you that we have no intention of “stealing your name.” In fact, there are many organizations and other websites entitled “Media Underground.” A simple google search will reveal that.

We are unwilling to pull the website down at this time, but we would be happy to have a notation on the website that we are not affiliated with your book. We could even post a link to your book on Amazon, or your own website if you have one, for those interested in more information on your book.

Again, we are very sorry that you are upset, but we are willing to do anything reasonable to avoid any more conflict. Please feel free to email us at themediaunderground@gmail.com if you would like a more private discussion about this.
